Story Stacy Clark

Setting goals has never been my strong suit. Choosing instead just to put one foot in front of the other, I like to see where the trail leads, seizing opportunities as they come.

I knew that I wasn’t alone in my meandering, but as the content for this winter’s issue came together, I met many wonderful people who, by allowing their hearts and their faith to steer them, have found themselves leading lives of service, compassion and achievement.

While our 3 Inspired People — Fred Bell, Catherine Penick and Effie Ann Hopkins — respond to the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of those they encounter through acts of volunteerism, fundraising and just plain kindness, ladies like Patricia Wilson, Marleen Hansen and Linda “L.L.” Gates work to ease the overwhelming task of adjusting to life in a foreign country for the international segment of our Columbus Air Force Base spouses.

And then there is our cover guy, Joe Max Higgins. While no one would argue that at the heart of Higgins’ success is his ability to set goals and achieve them, his journey from Paragould, Ark., sheriff’s son to CEO of the Golden Triangle Development Link certainly has been a winding one, filled with seized opportunities.

May the new year provide you with the fresh start and opportunities that you seek. Who knows where they may lead?
